Who can come to camp?
Campers must be 10 years old or above AND already be ‘able’ skateboarders. This means complete beginners and young novices would not be advised to apply for the courses as its structure and focus
is not suited.
What should my child bring with them?
Although we supply skateboards, helmets and pads to all children, they may like to bring their own if they have them which they are more comfortable with. As regards clothing, again we suggest clothes that the child feels most comfortable and at ease in - please include some warm options and wet weather options. Suitable footwear - i.e. trainers or skate shoes are also important. Toiletries, pyjamas, a phone card, some spending money and gloves and hat finish off the list. We would suggest they do not bring any equipment or games such as mp3 players, gameboys, tv\dvd players etc.
What about staff and supervision?
All of the staff who work for Rubicon Skateboards have good experience working with children, strong educational backgrounds and personalities and attitudes appropriate to teaching and mentoring. In addition our head instructor who will always be present has first aid training and is able to make risk assessments for any skateparks they visit. Children are never left to wander by themselves and from morning through night will be under the watchfull eye of the staff. Any breaking of camp rules such as night wandering, alcohol, smoking, bullying or other inappropriate behaviour will result in an immediate call to the childs parents and request for them to be collected.
Is food healthy and lodging safe?
Breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening are cooked inhouse by the staff using fresh ingrediaents and tasty classic recipies. Lunch will often be eaten on the road so to speak - either at the skatepark we’ve visiting or during the activity we’re enjoying - our chunky deep filled sandwiches are always popular. The lodging itself is clean, safe and secure. Belongings can be left there each day and children of the same sex generally share rooms - i.e. all the boys bunk up and all the girls together.
What if my child is injured at camp?
Our number one priority is always safety but owing to the nature of skateboarding, injuries are not unheard of. In the event of an accident we will contact you immediately to arrange pickup. We appreicate that it might be distressing to be informed of a childs injury when they are far from home but please be assured they will be in the best possible hands and we will take extra special care of them. Please encourage your child to communciate any injuries to us as often children will dumb down any pains they have so as to not miss out on the days activities or lose face in front of the other children. Once we have been informed we will check the injury and should it require take them to a doctor.
Can I have contact details of the lodging and staff?
Of course. We want you to be able to get in contact whenever you need to. That said we do encourage independent positive attitudes in the children, so if its their first time away from home, let them call you when they need to, rather than calling them every day. They will be encouraged to work as a team and adopt
positive attitudes resulting in a more confident and happy child.

Do kids pick on one another or do camp pranks?
We keep a close eye on unsociable behaviour and keep the children busy with action packed activities and team games. By utilising all their time and tiring them out each day, there is less chance and opportunity for silly behaviour. Anything reported to us however will be dealt with accordingly.
Must my child participate in every activity?
We encourage participation with everything we do, as this enables campers to meet other kids, stay busy, enjoy themselves and learn new skills. That said we will not force anyone to exceed their abilities or their interests . On the flip side most of our campers participate enthusiastically in every activity so we keep a close eye for signs of fatigue as this is when accidents might happen. We ensure that all children take time out to rest and recuperate.
Can my child go off and do their own thing?
No. The children are our responsibility whilst on the camp and are therefore always under our supervision and watchful eye. Children are not allowed to go anywhere unescorted and should they wish to sit out of a particular activity they will be accompanies by a staff member. Only with specific instrucution from a parent can a child do a different activity to what we offer or visit a different location to our plans.
